Performance Cycle Summaries - AI
Understand how Worknice protects employee privacy when generating AI summaries from performance reviews.
Before You Get Started
AI summaries are only generated after a performance review cycle is completed.
AI summaries are only visible to Account Owners.
No summary is generated for a cycle with less than 4 people
What the AI Summary Shows
The AI summary provides a high-level view of the review cycle, including key themes and suggested next steps.
A summary may include:
Strengths and Highlights
This section identifies positive patterns across the review cycle.
For example, it may highlight:
Strong performance themes
Teams or individuals repeatedly recognised in feedback
High-scoring areas across review responses
Positive manager or employee sentiment
Areas where employees are showing consistent capability or growth
Risks and Concerns
This section surfaces issues or gaps that may need attention.
For example, it may highlight:
Missing self reviews or manager reviews
Differences between self-review and manager feedback
Low-scoring themes or recurring concerns
Employees who may need additional follow-up
Signals around workload, confidence, capability, or support needs
Suggested Action Items
This section provides practical next steps based on the review data.
For example, it may suggest:
Following up with missing reviews
Checking in with managers or employees
Reviewing specific areas of concern
Investigating recurring themes
Planning follow-up conversations or development actions
Review Count and Generation Details
The summary also shows how many reviews were included and when the summary was generated.
For example:
Generated from 17 reviews on 21 Jul, 2026 at 4:28pm
This helps admins understand the source and timing of the summary.
No Names or Profiles Are Shared with AI
No employee names or personal profiles are shared with the AI.
Before anything is sent for summarisation, every person in the review cycle is replaced with an anonymous token. Real names are only added back inside Worknice when an authorised admin views the summary.
This means the AI does not receive identifiable employee profiles.
Aggregated, Not Raw Review Content
The AI does not receive full review documents.
Before generating a summary, Worknice first distils review responses into:
Statistics
Rating distributions
Common themes
Short anonymised excerpts
The only review text the AI may see is short, anonymised excerpts that help illustrate themes raised by multiple people.
Small Groups Are Protected
Worknice does not generate AI summaries for small review groups where feedback could be easier to identify.
To protect anonymity:
No summary is generated for review cycles with fewer than four people being reviewed
A theme is only surfaced if it appears in at least three separate responses
This helps ensure review feedback cannot be traced back to an individual.
Review Content Cannot Steer the AI
Review responses are kept separate from the AI’s instructions.
This means nothing written inside a performance review can change how the AI behaves, what instructions it follows, or how the summary is generated.
Every Summary Is Automatically Checked
Before an AI performance review summary is shown in Worknice, it is automatically screened for:
Names
Sensitive language
Discriminatory language
Unsafe or inappropriate content
If any check fails, the summary is blocked.
We would rather show no summary than show one that is not safe.
Who Can View AI Review Summaries
AI performance review summaries are only visible to authorised admins in your organisation, such as:
Account Owners
Summaries are only available after the review cycle has been completed.
