Track your team's goals

See what your direct reports are working towards and how it is going, without asking them for an update.

Before you get started

Goals is available to accounts with the Performance add-on.

You need the Goals permission from your account owner. View only lets you read your direct reports' goals. Full access also lets you create and update them. Without either, you will not see a Goals tab at all. See What you can see about your team.

Find a direct report's goals

Go to Team, then People, and select the person. Open their Goals tab.

Each goal shows its name, status, period and how far along it is. Select one to see the full detail, including the description and every progress update made against it.

Read the progress history

Progress is a history rather than a single number. Each update records who made it, the status they set, when, the percentage they moved it to and any note they left.

The notes are where the useful information is. A percentage tells you how far along something is; a note tells you why it moved, or why it did not. That is the part worth reading before a one to one.

The five statuses are Not started, On track, At risk, Completed and Cancelled.

Update a goal, with Full access

If your account owner has granted you Full access, you can also create goals for your direct reports and record progress against them.

  • Add goal creates one. It needs a name, a period start, a period end and an owner.

  • Update progress records a percentage, a status and an optional note.

Every goal starts at Not started and 0%, so add a progress update straight after creating one.

You cannot change who owns a goal. Only an account owner can do that.

You're All Done!

You can now read your team's goals, follow their progress history and, with Full access, keep them up to date.
