Retention insights
Retention insights help you understand how well you’re keeping people and where exits are happening. See overall turnover, attrition, and new‑hire retention at a glance, then explore trends, tenure patterns, and differences by location.

Turnover rate
Shows the percentage of people who left during the selected period. Gives a clear read on overall exit velocity so you can compare periods like‑for‑like.
How it’s calculated: Leavers in the period ÷ headcount at the start of the period × 100. A leaver is someone whose job end date falls inside the period.
Attrition rate
Shows the percentage of people who left due to attrition during the selected period. Separates structural or involuntary exits from other movements so you can target the right drivers.
How it’s calculated: People with archived positions in the period ÷ headcount at the start of the period × 100.
New hire retention rate
Shows how many recent hires are still employed one year after starting. Highlights onboarding effectiveness and early‑tenure risk.
How it’s calculated: Of people whose first‑year anniversary falls within the period, the percentage still employed one year after their start date.
Average tenure
Shows the average length of service for people active on the last day of the period. Indicates overall experience and organisational stability.
How it’s calculated: For people active on the last day, tenure is start date to that day; averaged across those people.
Attrition and turnover over time
Shows exits across the period, split into Turnover (teal, all leavers) and Attrition (orange, archived positions). Helps pinpoint when and how exit patterns change so you can link to events, seasons, or policy shifts.
How it’s calculated: Values are shown as a percentage of headcount for each sampled period, with tooltips showing counts and percentages.
Tenure
Shows a distribution of current employees by years of service, with an organisation average. Reveals experience mix to plan progression and knowledge transfer.
How it’s calculated: For people active on the last day of the period, tenure = start date to that day; grouped into tenure bands.
Tenure at exit
Shows how long people stayed before leaving. Identifies vulnerable tenure bands to target retention efforts.
How it’s calculated: For leavers in the selected period, tenure at exit = start date to job end date; grouped into tenure bands.
Retention metrics by location
Shows a comparison by location covering turnover rate, attrition rate, new hire retention rate, average tenure, and the number of people included. Helps identify locations performing well or needing attention.
How it’s calculated: Rates use each location’s headcount at the start of the period as the denominator; new‑hire retention follows the same one‑year rule per location; average tenure is for people active at the end of the period.
